In modern society, there has been an increase in the banning of books in schools. It has become a major topic in the writing industry. Many readers and writers feel it is wrong to put a ban on certain books in schools. I feel obligated to voice my opinion on the topic since I feel that the banning of books is pointless and unbelievable.
Being still a child, I can assure you that even throughout middle school kids are exposed to real world topics such as profanity, sexual activity, violence, and other reasons why books are banned. After all, a majority of middle schoolers have already seen rated R movies and listen to songs with this exact content in it- they are actually seeing and hearing the stuff instead of reading it. Banning these books is pointless since many of these kids are aware of these topics.
Another reason why kids should not be restricted to the books they read is that they should be exposed to the harsher topics in life before they reach high school. I hate to tell you parents this, but by the beginning of eighth grade kids are starting to face serious issues that are shown in these novels. Kids should be exposed to these issues prior to eighth grade so they are aware of the dangers that can occur from the things, the situations and side effects are often portrayed in most of the banned Young Adult novels.
Finally, unlike explicit videos and music, it is not easy to view explicit books unless the reader shows you it. In high school all you hear is explicit music and it is very hard to avoid at times. Books do not make noises and most books don't show explicit photos, so it is easier for people to not be aware of these topics from books. Most kids would rather not read anyway.
