As you may notice, most reviews of mine are negative. I tend to over right the negative things and give little credit to the positive things. With this in mind, I decided it's time for a fully positive review.
Impulse by Ellen Hopkins is an incredible read. The way she shows how real suicide is and is haunting. Ellen's writing style is gorgeous and poetic, making the story feel as it has more depth. I personally enjoyed how real the characters seemed. With every flaw and trait, you get to fall more deeply into their lives. Another thing was the character development. They way Tony and Vanessa changed was incredible. Not to mention, Tony and Vanessa relationship was so adorable.
The plot was amusing and well developed. The book finds a way to capture you and make you become obsessed with it. I personally read it in one day with little to no breaks. Everything about the setting makes it feel alive.
This is by far my favorite stand alone, though there is a companion novel I'm reluctant to read. With its share of happy, exciting, funny, and sad moments, you will enjoy it. I recommend greatly.
